David Roberts Obituary

David L. Roberts

David L. Roberts passed away on June 8th after an arduous battle with bone cancer and most recently, pneumonia. Married for 45 years, Dave is survived by his loving wife Emilie; two daughters Julie & Nicole; and his mother Jill.

Dave graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in marketing. He began his career path at McCann Erickson and went on to spend 17 years as a Marketing Director with Visa.

Dave's most recent business passion was as Principal of his own company, Marketing Green Power, as a provider of marketing solutions to alternative energy startup companies. He also volunteered his time with Reno's American Marketing Association and AARP. In 2005, Dave received an Ace Award from the AMA for Professional Member of the Year.

Being out in nature among the elements is where Dave felt most alive. He skied every winter and went camping in the summer with his family. He ran the Bay-to-Breakers and the San Francisco Marathon. In 1993, Dave was a finalist in the PCCC Club Tennis Championships. Other activities Dave enjoyed include fishing, hiking, golf, and yoga.

Dave was a disciplined, consistent, and dedicated man who wanted to create a better world for future generations. He touched both the hearts and minds of everyone who knew him. Dave took the time to talk and enjoy family relationships. He was always kind and interested in what you had to say.

Dave had a wonderful sense of humor and was easy to talk to. People felt good being around his positive energy. To quote Maya Angelou, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

Dave will surely be missed.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Walton's Funerals & Cremations (2155 Kietzke Lane, Reno, NV 89502) this Sunday, June 14th at 3pm. Friends and colleagues are encouraged to join us in celebration of Dave's memory by sharing personal stories, poetry, and music honoring his life. Donations in Dave's name to the Audubon Society or Reno's Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program are appreciated in lieu of flowers.

While the physical pain of the cancer made the past few months difficult for Dave, he is free now. Free of pain. Free of limitations. He's everywhere now.

I am so saddened to learn of the passing of Dave. I've long admired his dedication to any work he did, his passion for athletics and his complete adoration of his family. I will always remember him fondly. Emilie, Nicole and Julie, I am thinking of you.

To Emilie, Julie, & Nicole I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one Dave. Please accept my deepest sympathies at this difficult time. I too am feeling that deep pain of losing my best friend Dave. When I received word that Dave was called upon by our Father to join Him in heaven, the first thought that came to my mind was we lost another Angel. One thing I really believe in is that Dave will always be with us in spirit. Let me share my experience about him being with us in spirit. His birthday was just this past week on June 11th, so I had decided to play golf in his honor because we have our best of times on the golf course. That early morning of June 11th I was in my backyard & the most beautiful butterfly started circling me around for a few seconds & then flew off & I thought this is a sign that Dave is close in spirit. So later I checked in for my tee time, the starter suggested to pair me off with a three some that just checked in so I agreed. Turns out the three players are a father & his two sons & their mother was with them for the ride. On the third hole I went to introduce myself to the lady & asked her where they are from & she said they are from out of town and are here to celebrate the birthday of their 3rd son that suddenly died 3 months ago from a stroke & told her that I too am here to celebrate my best friends birthday who had just passed. This was Dave's way of showing us that he'll always be with us in Spirit.
