David Taylor Obituary

David Allan Taylor - aka Dad, DT, Uncle Dave, the self-proclaimed Duke of the Desert, El Dukarino, if you're not into that whole brevity thing - died peacefully in his home in Silver Springs, Nevada.
David was born in El Paso, Texas, grew up in Fabins, Texas, and moved to Lake Tahoe, California in his teens. In the mid-70s he met Jacquelyn Picciani, and together they had two daughters, Coral Rose Taylor Lochridge and Sarah Jacquelyn Taylor. David rose above a less-than-ideal childhood to become an incredibly caring, generous father who would go out of his way to make it to his daughters' out-of-town track meets and bring the entire team Gatorade. He never relinquished his role as Track Dad, and always attended his daughters' marathons long after high school, cheering them on and bragging to those around him about how proud he was as a father.
This devotion came from his huge loving heart, and he was never shy about letting the world know whom he loved and why. His generosity of spirit was not limited to immediate family: for David, family was not defined by blood. Many considered him a father and brother, and he had friends from all walks of life.
From his loud, boisterous, hard-partying ways, and frequent F-bombs, people were sometimes surprised to find that Dave was also an intellectually curious man who engaged with the world in a thoughtful way. He was never content to settle for ignorance in himself or others. This drove him to live life to the fullest (sometimes too fully) and pursue the things he loved to do with the same enthusiasm and devotion as he had towards those he loved.
David became a master plumber, and was known for bringing fun to the work place with Big Word Friday and Monosyllable Monday. In his free time, he loved riding motorcycles and was part of the Over the Hill Motorcycle Club. He was also an avid citizen of the Raider Nation, and loved all sports, except soccer. He was the king of the legendary Goat Barbecue, as well as a thoughtful hunter who respected nature.
David's family finds solace in the way he lived his life: he left no unfinished business. There is no doubt that for David, la familia - friends, relatives, and all loved ones - es primera, a motto he had tattooed on his arm for all to see. Still, his presence was so large, loud, and loving, that he will always be missed.
An honorary Goat Barbecue will be held to celebrate David's life in July, 2011.

Dave and I share a grandmother, Gladys Mitchell (née Sutton). I am just hearing of his death while researching family history. David’s mom, was my Great Aunt Maureen. I have lots of great memories spending time with her and watching her paint. Aunt Maureen’s sister was Mary Ann McGurt....my maternal grandmother.
I remember David, Russell and Lane being the “older” boy cousins while I was growing up. I was the only girl, so mostly they played with my brothers. I was born in 1960.
I do have some fond memories and wishing I was older so I could hang out with them more....
I am very sorry to hear about his passing. Our lives took different paths and I am
sorry to have lost touch.
I live in Los Angeles now, and would love to connect to any family members to learn more about your family history.

Your Dad was a true artisan and a kind and grateful humanitarian who talked always about how much he loved his family and his friends. One can always tell the character of a person by how much he speaks kindly of those he loves. Dave was a gem and a very proud dad. I knew him as a magician of a plumber who loved the antique Victorians of Virginia City and treated them like dear old folk, with high respect. He will be dearly missed. I am so so sorry for your loss.

Words fail at times like these...but for the record, I salute you, dear Duke of the Desert. Surely, you were a diamond in the rough...no pretentions. What you see is what you got. Kind and fierce in the same breath. Piercing insight and gutter profanity (on occassion!) I pray you were ready to meet your Maker...with questions in hand, to be sure! We will always love you, DT.
