Doris "Kaye" Vaughn passed away on November 25, 2014 in Sparks, NV at the age of 80. Kaye fought a long battle against a debilitating disease but is now finally at peace.
She was born Doris Carola Shetterly in McMinnville, Oregon on June 9, 1934 and was the sixth of seven children born to Kenneth E. and Doris Rowling Shetterly. Kaye played a big role in helping her parents run their home and hardware store as well as caring for her many nieces and nephews during the early years of her life.
Kaye eventually moved to Reno where she met and married Benny E. Vaughn. They had 3 children, a son, Larry, and two daughters, Beverly and Kelly. She was an absolutely devoted mother and found so much joy in spending time with her children. She made sure they were provided for by working over 30 years in the geology and mining industry as an executive secretary.
Kaye was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Kenneth E. Shetterly, Jr., John Lincoln (Jack) Shetterly, Robert A. (Bob) Shetterly, sisters Maxine L. Williams, and Elma Lynette Cross. She is survived by her youngest sister, Julie D. Steffanoff, children, Larry D. Vaughn of Sparks, NV, daughter Beverly L. Loranger and her husband Tim, and Kelly L. Elcano of Reno, NV, and grandchildren Casey and Courtney Elcano and Kathleen, Molly and Teague Loranger.
A celebration to honor Kaye is planned for Sat., December 13, 2014. Please contact the family for more information at 775-343-2841.

Dear Larry, Beverly, & Kelly,
Please accept my sympathy at the loss of your Mom. We were at the University of Oregon together our freshman year and lived on the fifth floor at Carson Hall. What fun times we had and lots of blood sweat and tears over grades. Kaye was such a good friend. I have Parkinson's Disease also and can't write, but can still key a little with lots of mistakes, thank goodness for spellcheck.
Again thanks for letting me know and please know how sorry I am for your loss.
