Reno - 1950-2021

Edwin E. Gonyou, 70, of Reno, Nevada, passed away May 11, 2021, after a brief illness. Edwin was born on August 24, 1950, in Lovell, Wyoming, to James Franklin Gonyou and Ana Lee (Bishop) Gonyou. His family resided in Powell, Wyoming, until 1967, when they moved to Billings, Montana. Edwin enjoyed playing saxophone in the Billings West High School symphonic band, marching band, and pep band. He graduated from Billings West High School in 1969. Edwin attended the University of Wyoming and graduated with a B.S. of Pharmacy in 1974. He worked as a pharmacist in Rawlins, Wyoming, Fort Morgan, and Brush, Colorado, and later, in Reno, Nevada. He owned a pharmacy, Brushland Drug, in Brush, Colorado, for 14 years. Ed was awarded the Eagle Scout rank at a young age, enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, camping, building model cars, woodworking, vintage automobiles, and playing baseball. He was a passionate collector, enjoyed playing golf, loved traveling, and was devoted to his children.

Ed was a member of Brush Masonic Lodge #123 in Brush, Colorado, initiated in 1980. He was a Fellow Craft and was raised to Master Mason. He also served as a Worshipful master of #!23. He was a long-time member of Master Mason Lodge Washoe #35 in 32nd degree. He was a Scottish Rite Mason with the Valley of the Reno Orient of Nevada, Kerak Shrine of Reno, and Master Artisan of the Quetzalcoatl (Truckee Teocalli #17).

Ed is survived by his wife, Sue (Johnson) Gonyou, six children, Ana (George) Sebok, Christy Parker, Heidi (James) Ordunez, Eric (Alesia) Kathman, Brita Gonyou, and Tanner Gonyou; two sisters, Linda (Matt) Huckfeldt, and Susan (Larry) Barttelbort, both of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and six grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorial gifts to Shriners Children Hospital or Make A Wish Foundation of Northern Nevada.
