Franklin Dailey Obituary

Franklin Joseph Dailey, MD

Franklin Joseph Dailey, MD passed away June 27, 2014 at the Life Care Center in Reno, NV at the age of 90. 'Doc' was born October 25, 1923 in North Little Rock, AR.

He was a graduate of Catholic High School for boys in Little Rock. Frank proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War 2 as a Hellcat fighter-photo reconnaissance pilot, taking part in combat missions over Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and mainland Japan including Tokyo.

Frank married his wartime sweetheart Florence Rose Connors on Thanksgiving Day, 1946 in St. Louis, MO. He attended the St. Louis University Medical School, graduating in 1951. After completing a residency program in southern California Frank began a family practice in the Arlington area in Riverside.

Recognizing the need for a new medical facility in Riverside Frank joined four physician colleagues in founding Parkview Hospital in 1958. In 1967 the founders sold Parkview Hospital to the community, creating a non-profit facility which continues to serve Riverside and surrounding areas. After 25 years in family medicine Frank closed his private practice in 1976 to become Director of Emergency Medicine at Parkview Hospital, a position he held until 1994. He also served on the Parkview Board of Directors, stepping down in 1997. His medical career included 25 years of service as chief physician at the Riverside County jail.

In 1997 Doc and Flo moved to Bishop, CA. The Eastern Sierra held a special place in Frank's heart as the focus of countless trips over nearly a half-century with a posse of fishing and card playing buddies. The couple moved to Reno, NV in 2004. Florence Dailey passed away in 2007 after 60 years of marriage.

Frank was a lifetime member of the Roman Catholic Church. His devotion prompted him to write numerous articles, pamphlets, and 2 books examining various aspects of the Faith.

Survivors include son and daughter in law, John and Sandy Dailey of Reno, NV, grandson and wife, Michael and Lindsey Dailey of Kirkland, WA, one great granddaughter numerous nieces nephews, friends, and thousands of patients who benefitted from his care.

A memorial mass will be held at 10am Saturday, August 23, 2014 in the chapel at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery on North Virginia St. in Reno, NV. Franklin Dailey will be buried next to Florence at Our Mother of Sorrows. A rosary service will proceed the memorial mass at 9:15.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in the memory of Franklin Dailey be directed to Carmel of Reno, 1950 La Fond Drive, Reno, NV 89509.
