George Gur-Kovic Obituary

George Gurkovic 89, passed away peacefully in his home July 28, 2015. Born in Tyrone, PA to Ambrose and Mary Gurkovic who had immigrated from Croatia.
He was a well known local business owner for more than 40 years.
He was very proud to have served in the Navy Submarine Service during WWII in the Asian Pacific. Also, George enjoyed being a member of Reno Elks Lodge where he found great friendship and good times.
He is survived by his wife Vera (Sunny), their children, family members and many great friends.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday Sept 20th at 2pm at Trinity Episcopal Church. There will be a casual gathering after the service.
In lieu of flowers our family asks that any donation be directed to St. Mary's Hospice. They were a great help to George and family throughout his illness.
We thank all of you who helped and supported us during these challenging times. You are all remembered in our thoughts and prayers. - The Gurkovic Family

To the Gur-Kovic Family,
On behalf of the Charleston Base SUBVETS and Swamp Fox Chapter SUBVETS WWII, I offer you our sincere condolences on George's passing. We grieve with you on the loss of your loved one and all SUBVETS and their families have your family in our thoughts and prayers. There is no expiration date on the back of our dolphins and George will always be remembered as a Brother of the Phin, a member of our Greatest Generation, and a great Patriot.

I work for George on and off over the years. The best memory is my kids will always remember him as the Licorice MAN and I will remember as a friend.
