John Dr Obituary

John Michael Watson MD

August 23, 1919

December 21, 2015

Growing up in New York during the depression his early years were spent playing minor league baseball with several future HOF Yankees as teammates. He ultimately chose a life in medicine and attended Albany Medical School graduating in 1944. During medical school he was drafted into the Army serving as a physician during WWII and was discharged in 1947 with the rank of Captain. He practiced in upstate New York as a family physician before eventually moving to Nevada in the early 1950's.

He settled in the community and established a family practice clinic in Sparks where he met the love of his life Patricia. The marriage united 7 siblings with one ensuing child to bring the total to 8. He touched countless lives in the area until retiring at the age of 72. A man of simple joys and never losing his love of sports, he spent countless hours at his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.

He enjoyed his retirement years with his wife of 45 years always close by his side. His retirement was full, and continued to be able, frequently travelling for vacation up until the last year of his life. A quiet man by nature, with a quick wit to bring a smile and to hide a deeply compassionate and caring heart. He is survived by his wife Patricia, 8 children, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered by all.

In his own words and oft used expression "I'm 96 for heaven's sake......what did you expect?!"

A memorial service will be held January 2, 2016 at 1pm at Mountain View Mortuary located at 425 Stoker Ave., Reno, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bishop Manogue High School Baseball and the Nevada Humane Society.

We will certainly miss seeing him in our office. I will always remember him telling me "I used to have my office in this building" an we'd reminisce about all the other doctors who were here when he was. He was kind, funny and his patients loved him. He will be truly missed. My prayers are with Pat at this time. God bless.

My mother Pat was his nurse for several years up until his retirement. He was a great doctor and a good boss.
