John Manoukian Obituary

John Peter ("JP") Manoukian

June 18, 1966

April 28, 2014

On June 18, 1966, JP Manoukian was born at St. Mary's Hospital to Katy & Don Manoukian. He recently passed away in his hometown of Reno, Nevada, in the presence of family and friends. JP attended Reno High School, where he wrestled, played football, and made lifelong friendships and memories with fellow students, teachers and administrators. JP's 1985 senior year at Reno High School produced a football State Championship and was RHS's last undefeated team. After graduation from Reno High, JP went on to attend and wrestle at Modesto Jr College, Foothill Jr College, and finally San Francisco State University.

JP pursued his passion of wrestling and golf while living and working in the SF Bay Area. He called Harding Park, virtually adjacent to SF campus, his "home course". After several years in sporting goods sales, he returned to Reno and followed a career in the insurance industry. John's energy and engaging personality made him a natural in sales. Even during the last several years in which he battled health problems, JP's kind heart and indomitable spirit made his many friends and family smile and laugh during this very tough period. JP was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend, and a life force that will never be duplicated or replaced. While much shorter than all had hoped and prayed, JP's life burned bright and warmed the hearts of all who had the experience and privilege of spending time with him.

His loss leaves an irreplaceable void in the family, but the rich memories he leaves behind grace his family and friends with many stories that will be retold many times. The family thanks his legion of old and new friends for the condolences and kind deeds in his passing. JP loved to speak of his older brother Dirk's (Molly) son Jack and daughter Kate. JP is Jack's godfather, and was a loving and supportive uncle to both Jack and Kate. JP is also survived by his mother Katy, and father Don. JP's immediate relatives include: uncle Judge Noel (Louise) Manoukian, and aunts Jackie Powers and Lorraine Manoukian. Cousins, Craig (Elaine) Manoukian, Dr. Paul (Becky) Manoukian, Scott (Gail) Manoukian, Marko (Linda) Manoukian, Corinne Powers, Jacquie Manoukian, and step sister Stacie (Lon) Coates and step brother Robert Rodrigues. JP was preceded in death by uncles Milton Manoukian and Roy Powers, aunt Joan "Jody" Woodin and cousins Alan Powers and Joey Manoukian.

The family wishes to thank Renown Regional Medical Center, Manor Care, and Gentiva Hospice for the exceptional treatment and care provided to JP. Family friend, Dr. John M. Davis provided personal counsel to JP and the family throughout JP's illnesses. A memorial gathering is being planned for mid June.

Manouk,
Saturday is your memorial. We will gather to remember and pay tribute to a unique individual, a prototype. You were my oldest friend; the first kid I met when we moved into the neighborhood. We went through so much together, had so many good times, got into so much trouble.
You were the kind of guy a person is lucky to meet once in his lifetime. Growing up, you were another member of our family. I want you to know that we all thought of you that way. As much as it hurts to lose you I can't and don't want to imagine not ever having met you. Everybody who knew you is blessed to have called you his friend.
I offer Don, Katie, Dirk, and the entire Manoukian family my deepest condolences for the loss of their son and brother and to thank them for allowing me to share with them John's bright light.
