Lloyd Nelson Obituary

Lloyd L. Nelson

August 10th, 1939

August 7th, 2015

Lloyd passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family, after succumbing to a lengthy illness. He was 75 years of age. Lloyd was born in Bonanza, Oregon to Alice and Nels Nelson. He was an infant when his parents moved the family to Reno, Nevada, where he grew up. In 1957 he graduated from Fallon High School where he lettered in basketball and football. Soon after graduating, Lloyd enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (Semper Fi), proud to serve his country. When he returned to Fallon from his military service he married his first wife, Dee Ann Morgan, began a family and his early career as an electrician, working for Childers Electric. Llloyd then moved his family to Sparks where he began his apprenticeship in the IBEW JATC program, graduating in three years at the top of his class. Lloyd worked for Acme Collins Electric during his apprenticeship and later advanced to General Foreman. It was while employed for Acme Collins and working for St. Mary's Hospital that Lloyd met and married his wife of 48 years, Pat and started his second family. In 1972 Lloyd decided to open his own business and Nelson Electric Company was launched. The company had a modest beginning, but with skilled leadership, a strong work ethic and expert employees, the company quickly became a competitor in the electrical contracting business. Lloyd always took pride in maintaining high standards and performing quality work with integrity and professionalism. He loved his company. Through the years Lloyd served on many committees and was a member of several business related and service organizations. Lloyd belonged to the Kerak Shriners, Arabian Unit; Reno Lodge No. 13; Reno York Rite, Chapter No. 7, Dewitt Clinton Commander No. 1, Knights Templar, Reno and the Prospector's Club. Lloyd was a true patriot, a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a generous and giving individual who quietly supported numerous youth organizations. He never refused a request for sponsorship of any youth team, no matter what sport. Lloyd was also a generous supporter of many organizations in our community, including St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, the University of Nevada Reno's Athletic Program, The Boys and Girls Club and the Reno Rodeo Association. He loved sports and made many trips to San Francisco to watch his favorite teams, the Giants and the 49ers, as well as catching the games at home on TV. Lloyd always enjoyed gardening and grew lots of wonderful veggies and his favorite flowers-red roses. Pat has dozens of zucchini recipes, if anyone is interested! Lloyd's love for his business, his country and his community was only eclipsed by his love for his family. He loved his children beyond words and adored his twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson. They truly were his pride and joy. Lloyd is predeceased by his parents, five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by one uncle, George Bray; one sister, Muriel "Nikki" Young; wife and "best bud" Pat; his children, Guy, Alice (craig), Lisa (Jamie), Robbie (Tanya), Jeff (Lauren); grandchildren Danielle (Eric), Josh, Kenny, Alyssa, McKenna, Emily, Rilee, Haylee, Samantha, Mia, Bella, Lloyd; great-grandson Cruz; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Grampy, we will always remember you for your faithful attendance at all of our games, your high fives, all of the family trips and gatherings, the pool you built for us and our wonderful Christmas tree hunts. We will miss you forever. Funeral service will be conducted by Mountain View Mortuary and will be held August 25, 2015 at 2:00 pm. A private burial will immediately follow the service.

Pat, Lisa, Robbie and Jeff,
There aren't any words I can think of to express how much Lloyd meant to me. He taught me so much not only about the electrical business but about life and I looked up to him like a Dad. I think what I'll cherish most is spending time with him each morning when he'd come to my desk with his black coffee in a styrofoam cup to talk about the days work ahead & often a joke or two which would lead to his cheeks turning red and him laughing. His laugh was infectious and I will never forget him.
Love,
Amberlee

Pat, Lisa, Robbie, and Jeff, not sure how to express to you all how much I respected Lloyd for giving me the opportunity to work for him. I have always respected Lloyd for his drive and dedication to the business, and it was always evident how strong of a family man Lloyd was. His personality was very unique that I don't think most understood. Thank you Lloyd and family for the sharing yourselves with us all.
