Lucille Agnes Flores, our mother and grandmother, entered into eternal life on April 24, 2015. Lucille was born on May 30, 1923, in Hannah, Alberta, Canada. At the age of two years she moved with her family to Casper, Wyoming, where she was raised with her four siblings.
After graduating High School she attended the Salvation Army Bible College in San Francisco, California, after which she was commissioned as an officer. Lucille was stationed at various Corps in the Western United States. In 1953 she met Jack Flores while serving in Portland, Oregon. They were married on October 16, 1954, and relocated to Concord, California, during which time they had their two daughters Kathy, and Carol, in addition to Lucille's step-daughter Jackie. In 1964 they moved to Reno and were active in the Salvation Army Corp there for many years.
Lucille loved to sew, knit, crochet, craft, garden and bake cookies with her grandchildren. Family was most important, after Jesus, and she taught us all the value of hospitality and service to others.
Lucille is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Jack Flores, granddaughter Sarah Elizabeth Smitherman, and son-in-law Gene Merlino. She is survived by her children Kathy Merlino, Carol and Jim Smitherman, step-daughter Jackie Bacorn, grandchildren Matt Burkhardt, Mark and Anne Burkhardt, Jeremy Merlino and Tiffany Merlino, Brandon and Amy Merlino and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Julia Merlino.
A memorial service for Lucille will be held on April 28, 2015, at 3:00 pm at the Salvation Army Corp in Reno, 1925 Sutro Street. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Lucille's name to the Salvation Army.
Lucille's family would like to thank her Morning Star Family, and caregivers Rochelle and Michelle for their loving care of Lucille over the last several years.
