Manfred Wiechers Obituary

Manfred Wiechers

September 17, 1941

June 24, 2015

Manfred Wiechers, of Sparks, NV passed away at Arbor's Memory Care on June 24, 2015. Manfred was born on September 17, 1941 to Diedrich and Marie (Karkheck) Wiechers, in Klein-Hauslingen, Germany. He trained as an apprentice electrician before joining the Merchant Marines where he traveled all over the world. Manfred came to the U.S. in 1966 and worked for his older brother Dick as a Volkswagen mechanic at D&D Foreign Car Service in Reno. He was also the parts manager and service manager.

He wanted to follow in his brother's footsteps so he and his wife bought their own business, D&D Dismantlers in 1980 and have lived the American dream ever since, owning several homes and raising their family in Sparks, before retiring and selling the business in 2004. In his spare time, he enjoyed off road racing, hunting, fishing, skiing, and golf and playing chess. He and his wife owned and managed D&D Dismantlers for 24 years before retiring and selling the business in 2004.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Arnold Wiechers. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Myers) Wiechers; his four children, Tommy Wiechers of Elko, NV, Donnie Wiechers of Reno, NV, Josh Wiechers of Sparks, NV, and Jennie Upham of Sparks, NV; his three siblings Dick Wiechers of Reno, NV, Siegfried Wiechers of Germany, and Inga Basmann of Germany; his eight grandchildren, Amberlia Wiechers, Dylan Wiechers, Sierra Shaw, Colton Shaw, Annika Wiechers, Gage Upham, Gavin Upham, and Lily Upham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Arbor's Memory Care for their loving care and Gentiva Hospice for his end-of-life care. There will be no services per his wishes, think of him fondly as you knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Northern Nevada Chapter, 1301 Cordone Ave Ste 180, Reno, NV 89502.
