Robert Heery Obituary

Robert Joseph Heery, Jr.

July 1, 1946

May 9, 2015

Robert "Bob" Heery, beloved husband, father and Poppy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2015 with his wife and two children bedside serving as witnesses to his final breath. He was 68.

Bob was born in Chicago, IL and moved to Seattle, WA soon thereafter. He spent his formative years in Portland, OR, where he graduated Cleveland High School in 1964. He then served honorably in the United States Navy on three destroyer class vessels off the coast of Southeast Asia and throughout the South Pacific.

While on R&R in Hobart, Tasmania, Bob met and immediately fell in love with his future wife Rose. Upon finishing his service with the Navy, Bob married Rose on March 20, 1971. Their son, Peter, arrived in April 1972. Daughter Kimberly followed in February 1975.

The Heery family moved to Rose's homeland Australia in 1976, living eight wonderful years before returning to Portland in 1984. Bob and Rose made their final move to Sparks, NV in 2001.

Aside from spending time with loved ones and friends, Bob enjoyed reading, eating baked sweets, creating delicious soups, drinking great microbrew beers and watching Notre Dame football. He loved living in the Reno/Sparks area, always looking forward to such events as the Blues & Brews Festival and the annual Labor Day Weekend Ribs Fest.

Bob is preceded in death by his brother Don, his father Robert and his mother Alta. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Rose, sisters Sharon and Kathy, children Peter and Kimberly, son-in-law Bryan and granddaughters Kyla and Bella.

Bob will be loved and forever missed by his family and friends.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, particularly the nursing staff, for helping Bob stay as comfortable as possible in his final days.

A memorial will be held Friday, May 15, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Walton's Sparks Funeral Home, 1745 Sullivan Lane, Sparks, NV 89431.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Robert's name to the COPD Foundation, www.copdfoundation.org.

I have precious memories of Thanksgiving dinners during the late 80's with the Heery family as they "adopted" us newly transplanted to Oregon in 1987.

Not only was Bob's singing antics and fun-loving humor contagious, but he possessed the pure and simple joy of life and family to its fullest. For that, he was most admirable and will be sorely missed by all.

Hugs to Kathy, Rose, Kim, Peter and family.

My dearest family. Words cannot express how very sorry I am for your loss. I know how much Bob will be missed. His spirit lives on in all of you. Just look into each other's eyes and he will be there. Eternal rest grant onto him Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

Although I didn't spend a lot of time with Bob, I did enough to know that he and Rose were special people. I will always appreciate the kindnesses and inclusion in your family fun for Rachel, Amy, and the boys. May you remember the happy times you all shared together! God bless, Kathy Young, Rachel's Mom.
