W. Dale Slaughter

February 21, 1952

September 10, 2016

William Dale Slaughter, age 64, died Saturday, September 10, 2016, in Reno, Nevada.

Dale was born February 21, 1952, in Fort Worth, Texas. As a child, he moved with his family to Beaumont, Texas. After high school graduation, Dale was hired by Gulf Oil Corporation in June 1970. Dale worked and attended Lamar University in Beaumont, graduating in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He continued his education, earning a degree in Personnel Management.

Dale's entire 46-year career was spent with Gulf Oil/ChevronTexaco. During his tenure with Chevron, he was located at various offices in Texas, Louisiana, and California. He served four years in Kazakhstan at Tengiz Chevroil as Human Resources Supervisor. His last position was Senior Labor Relations Representative at ChevronTexaco's Richmond, California refinery. Dale and his wife, Brenda, moved to Reno in 2005.

Dale was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis more than fifteen years ago. After the diagnosis, Dale and Brenda traveled often and played hard. Dale was valiant in his fight against his diseases, amazing everyone that knew him. Dale was unbelievably resourceful in figuring out how to accomplish what he wanted to accomplish from the seat of a scooter. He refused to let his illnesses define him. Dale loved his wife, his family, his friends, and his home.

Dale is survived by his wife, Brenda, as well as his son, David Slaughter, his daughter, Anne Marie Polan, and his step-daughter Michelle Purvis. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Rhonda Slaughter, and his son-in-law, Dave Polan. Dale was very proud of his three grandchildren, Samuel Slaughter, Olivia Slaughter, and Dylan Polan.

Dale had no desire for a funeral. He wanted his family and friends to honor him with a celebration of his life. That celebration will be held at a later date.

Dale was strong-willed and strong-hearted. He was and will always be an inspiration to all that knew him. He will be forever remembered and forever loved.

My wife and myself

Robert McGrath

January 2, 2017

January 2nd, just got this news from my mother, Patricia Hooper. I'm Robert McGrath, Dales 2nd cousin. My Aunt Weltha, Uncle Sam and Dale were my most favorite family members on earth as a child.
We drifted apart in later life, but I can remember Dale showing me his massive train collection, and riding on his back like a horse when I was about 5 years old, and hundreds of other good memories as well...

David I met you at Uncle Sams funeral, you may not remember me. I hope you and your sister are doing well.

I've thought about him and the rest of his immediate family my whole life. Last I saw him was at his father's funeral, my Uncle Sam..

Always loved you cousin Dale, rest in peace. Sad loss....anyone want's to contact me, [email protected], the photo is my lovely wife Veil, and myself taken in Manila in 2015

Respectfully

Robert J McGrath, Dallas Texas
