Edward Hutchins Obituary

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI- Edward James (Jim) Hutchins Jr., 81, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, with his beloved family by his side.

Born on April 23, 1944, Jim was a proud veteran who served his country in Vietnam before returning home to build a life centered on family, community, and hard work. For over 50 years, he owned and operated Hutchins Electric, becoming a trusted figure in the North Kingstown area.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Jo-Ann Hutchins; his daughters, Kerrie Grow and her family of North Kingstown, and Rory Hutchins of Boston. He was deeply proud of his family and cherished every moment spent with them.

A lover of life's simple pleasures, Jim enjoyed a cold Coors Light, sunny days on the golf course, and time on the water. He was a former member of Quidnessett Country Club in Rhode Island and Heron Creek Country Club in Florida, where he shared his passion for golf and good company. He was also a proud member of the Wickford Yacht Club.

Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor, quiet strength, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. His

legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through friendship, service, and generosity.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 25, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Rd. North Kingstown. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Calling Hours will be held Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to St. Bernard Church will be appreciated.

Jo-Ann and Family,
Just read the sad news online and please accept my sympathy. I went through it not long ago so can truly send condolences. Jim did our home and was great to visit with you folks at the NKHS reunion. I am so very sorry.
