LAEL THALMAN Obituary

LAEL THALMAN 1934 - 2025 Sigurd/West Jordan, Utah: Lael Payne Thalman arrived in Vermillion, Utah, on the 12th day of November, 1934 to Lionel Claude Payne and Faye Conder. Lael Thalman departed on the 6th day of August 2025, in Lehi, Utah, at the age of 90 surrounded by her family. From humble beginnings, she carried a strength that was the foundation of multiple generations. She had many talents including sewing, embroidery, knitting, crochet, needle point and record keeping. Her dedication, patience and commitment to develop her talents and use them consistently was her way of life. She applied those skills to all aspects of life, specifically the gospel. She loved the Lord and worked each day to live by His teachings. Her talents provided her many opportunities to help others, and she often gave the items made not only to family, but to anyone in need. Each item given had the feeling of her warmth and unwavering love, and many are considered treasures that will comfort and carry her spirit as long as they are kept. Lael grew up in Vermillion, Utah, and attended Sigurd Elementary. She also spent a few years in Magna, Utah before returning to Vermillion where she graduated from Richfield High School in 1953. Lael was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many different callings throughout her life. She served a Mission in Salt Lake City, Utah, Family History Center and loved the work she did during that time. She cherished the people she met and many became life long friends. She served as a service missionary in Monroe, Utah, helping with church records. She often talked about the gospel and loved to share her knowledge of the restored gospel, her Savior Jesus Christ and was always prepared to share books of scripture with those she spoke with. Her life was dedicated to keeping her covenants, and she counted each day a blessing and an opportunity to prepare for the Lord's return. She married Mack A Thalman on June 23rd 1954 in the Manti Temple. To their union came six children, Matt (Cynthia), Laurie (Rob) Brems, Bryce, Cindy (Fred) Blackham, Lisa (Kim) Hillyard and Tony (Kristie). She is survived by her children, Laurie, Cindy, Lisa and Tony; her siblings, Rilla Dee Beck, Susanne Nichols, Sherrie Hutchings, David Detro, and Joe Detro. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Mack, and sons, Matt and Bryce. She had 21 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. She will be missed by her family and those that knew her. Her love was never ending and was given to all she associated with and loved. Lael spent many years working for Zions Bank. She first worked there as a teenager, returned later, and retired from the bank with almost 30 years of service. Lael was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP). She enjoyed learning and sharing experiences of her pioneer ancestors. She was a skilled record keeper and journalist. She gained that love in part from being co-editor of the high school newspaper. She's written hundreds and hundreds of journals and completed dozens of photo albums that portrayed many of her life's experiences. She loved to sit and play games with everyone, especially her grandchildren. Not only board and/or card games but any game. Even this past summer, she was caught playing baseball with grandkids. How they all loved Grandma. No matter the game, she shared her love with those who played. The family wishes to thank Harmony Home Health & Hospice for their loving care of Lael. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 16th, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3180 North 300 West, Lehi, Utah.
