LORA BURR Obituary

LORA BURR 2/13/1937 - 10/25/2025 Koosharem, Utah: Lora Anderson Burr, age 88, passed away peacefully in her home in the arms of her loving husband, Jack, on October 25, 2025, and leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion. Lora was born on this earth to Robert Donal Anderson and Reine Gleave Anderson on February 13, 1937, in Richfield, Utah, the oldest of 7 children. As a beloved daughter of God, her life was centered on her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and serving her family. Because of her mother's rheumatoid arthritis, at a very young age, Lora was responsible for helping care for her brothers and sisters and household duties. She learned from her mother to always do her very best, to "make sure to get the corners clean", and that hard work is required to receive the important things in life. Lora was a worker and taught this by example to her family. She was raised in Koosharem and loved the people of the valley, where she was surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and friends. She began singing with her cousin Pauline, and throughout her life, she continued to share her beautiful voice and musical talents to bless the lives of her family and others as she served with Jack throughout the world on missions. Jack and Lora sang "How Great Thou Art" and "When the Snow is On the Roses" in many wards and old folks parties. While a senior at Richfield High School, Jack Burr (a young man from the 'Valley') asked her on a date. She remembered how impressed she was with him when he spoke to the youth in her ward after returning from his mission and how handsome he was in his Army uniform after he returned home from Korea--so she agreed to go out with him, and the romance began. After she graduated from high school, they attended Utah State University and were married one year later for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple on June 14, 1956over 69 years ago. She worked on campus as a secretary for Evan Stevenson, father of Elder Gary Stevenson, for one year and then gave birth to their oldest son, James. Jack worked in the field of education, which led them to live in Monticello for five years, Manti for five years, St. George for five years, and Santa Clara for ten years until their children were raised. In 1984, after her mother fell and broke her leg, Jack and Lora decided it was time to return home and take care of their parents. One year was spent in Richfield while building their home in Koosharem next to her childhood home. They returned to Grass Valley, where she and her father took total care of her mother. Lora was beautiful, positive, always smiling, and never complained. She was a gifted homemaker who created a beautiful home filled with the Spirit. She was very talented and could do anything she set her mind to - wallpapering her home, making homemade hand cream, photography, and handmade chocolates. She was an expert seamstress and sewed everything from the boys' suits to the girls' prom dresses and sewed curtains, bedspreads, and pillows for her home. She even made all the outfits for the drill team at Dixie High one year. She was an excellent cook and baker and loved being in the kitchen, trying new recipes. She baked six loaves of wheat bread every week for her family, and made amazing cinnamon rolls that she shared with friends and neighbors. Even up to the week before she passed, she made banana bread for Jack to deliver to people in the Valley. Summers found her bottling, making jam, and freezing the produce grown in their large garden. She loved serving in the Primary, Relief Society, and Young Women's. In 1995, she and Jack accepted a call to serve an LDS mission in Vladivostok, Russia. It was a great sacrifice for her to leave her children and grandchildren to serve the Lord. They, with two other couples, learned to love the Russian people and were successful in getting the Church recognized, and a small branch started. They then served in the Atlanta Georgia Mission for 10 months, working with Vietnamese immigrants. After being home for a time, they were called to serve another mission to South Africa with special assignments in Botswana and Mozambique, where they learned to love the African people. Upon returning home, they spent twelve years working Fridays and Saturdays in the Manti Temple, and also six months in the Nauvoo Temple. When Jack was called to be the Patriarch in the Richfield, Utah, Stake, Lora served as his scribe, which she truly loved. Lora loved living in Grass Valley and loved the wonderful people who live there, and we wish to thank all those who have been so kind to Lora and Jack. Lora spent her earthly sojourn serving the Lord and his people. She truly was a Christlike person who was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. She had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel, and desired greatly to live with Him and her family forever. When she passed, she was the Mother of 5, Grandmother of 25, Great-grandmother of 36, and Great-great-grandmother of 2. Lora is survived by her husband, Jack, and their children, James Reed (Michelle), Suzanne (Shan) Gubler, David Jack (Cheri), Jan Mark (Nancy), and Sara (Alan) Bailey. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert and Lanny. Her surviving siblings are Jack Anderson, Judy Peterson, Rae Anderson, and Jolene Fullmer. Funeral will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 12 noon in the Koosharem Ward Chapel. A viewing will be held prior to services from 10:00 to 11:30 am in the Church. Interment will be in the Burrville Cemetery. Funeral directors are Magleby Mortuary of Richfield, Salina, and Manti. An online guestbook and livestreaming can be found at www.maglebymortuary.com.
