Michael P. Casolo

1923 - 2018

Michael P. Casolo, age 95, formerly of 401 N. Broad Street, Ridgway, died early Friday morning, Aug. 17, 2018, at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following an illness of the last two years. He was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Ridgway, son of the late Frank and Jenny (Loicano) Casolo. He married Margaret Hooper on Jan. 9, 1960 and she preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 2014.
He resided in Ridgway all of his life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Ridgway High School. He served in the U.S. Army - 1st Army under General Bradley 27th Armored Division and was a Veteran of WWII. He had been a self-employed truck driver for 30 years and also worked at Airco Speer for eight years.
He is survived by one daughter, Martha C. (George) Wingard of St. Marys; 2 grandchildren: Brandon Wingard and Dana Wingard both of Pittsburgh; one stepdaughter, Molly Griffin of Fishers, Indiana; one stepson, John Taylor of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Severence, John, Anthony, and Joseph Casolo; and two sisters: Mary Casolo Donato and Florence Casolo McDivitt.
A Memorial Mass for Michael P. Casolo will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church on Friday Aug. 31, 2018 at 10 a.m. with Military Honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial Detail. Officiating will be Fr. Justin P. Pino, Pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church.
Burial will be at St. Leo Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Memorials, if desired, can be made to the Elk County Humane Society.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home.
