Paula Guffey Obituary

Paula D. Guffey, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on July 29, 2024, after a brief illness, surrounded by her family. She was a resident of 20 Cassin Hill Rd, Garnet Valley, PA.

Paula was the cherished daughter of the late Sophia (Szymanski) DeChano and Paul D. DeChano. She is survived by her devoted husband, John Cunningham, and her four loving sisters: Gina Gausman (husband Stephen Gausman), Barbara Lanese, Jenny Jo Barber (Rick Barber), and Eva Feidler (husband Michael Feidler). Paula was a beloved aunt to Gina and Steve Gausman's children: Stacey Adamski (Joe), Erika Martell (Pat), and Jodie McVan (Mike); Jenny Jo Barber's children: Nicholas Barber and Raena Lindemuth (Brent); and Eva and Mike Feidler's children: Leah Chamberlin (Nick) and Michele Feidler Lehman (Drew). She was also a great-aunt to 18 great-nieces and nephews.

Paula is survived by her husband John's family, including John R. Cunningham (wife Jeanne Cunningham) and grandchildren Lucie, Charlie, Allie, and Jamie. She is also remembered by her two aunts, Jackie Myslinski (John) and Bobbie Hokoana (Ted), along with several cousins.

Paula had a grace about her that can't be described, regal in her beauty. She was known for her incredible generosity and dedication to her family. She worked as a secretary at Ridgway Hospital, where she was valued for her kind nature. Despite living an adventurous life early on, including traveling on the Concorde before it was retired, residing in the heart of New York City, and even meeting Pope John Paul II. Paula will be most remembered for her later years, living the life she wanted with John. Embracing a simpler life that reflected her humble personality and her desire for simplicity and the love of home.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as doing crossword puzzles, reading books, watching the news with John, spending time with her family, and caring for her dogs, Joey and Jill. Paula was also known for her amazing decorating skills, creating beautiful homes that were a testament to her talent and attention to detail.

Paula's incredible generosity, caring, kindness, and love for her family will forever be remembered and cherished. She was always there to care for her loved ones whenever they needed her, asking nothing in return. Our hearts will miss her more than words could ever express.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Leo Catholic Church, 111 Depot Street, Ridgway, PA 15853.

I was lucky enough to cross paths with Paula - and John- only just recently. I was not lucky enough to know her well. But her beautiful spirit spoke to me at once. I loved her instantly. Laurie Ferro

Paula was like my sister that I never had since I was blessed with two brothers. We were able to sit and talk about life. John and Paula had such a beautiful relationship. Paula will be truly missed. Until we meet again. A absolutely wonderful and caring Angel has gone into God’s arms. I will smile when I think of you!
