Adel Ollie Mokarem

Adel Ollie (Ed) Mokarem, 74, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at University of Virginia Hospital. He was born in Ras Al-Metn, Lebanon, on November 4, 1932, the son of Ollie and Nabiha Mokarem. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia A. Mokarem and his father, Ollie Mokarem. Mr. Mokarem came to the United States in 1952. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1964 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Tech Sergeant. Mr. Mokarem worked for Prudential Insurance Company serving as Agent in Martinsville, Va. from 1964-69, Staff Manager in Blacksburg from 1969-1975, District Manager in Knoxville, TN from 1975-1976 and again as Agent in Blacksburg from 1976-97. He was active in the community as a volunteer with the Humane Society of Montgomery County from 1994 until present and also with the Second Time Around Store showing his love for animals. He is survived by his mother, Nabiha Mokarem of Lebanon; a son, David W. Mokarem of Troy, Va.; a brother, Faouzi O. Mokarem of Fairfax, Va.; sisters, Salwa Chehayeb of Lebanon, Anwar Makarem of Nigeria; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be conducted Sunday, July 15, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Father Dennis L. Sossi officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service. A memorial service will also be held in Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Montgomery County, P.O. Box 287, Blacksburg, Va. 24063-0287.
