Alma Bryant Obituary

Alma Wade (Susie) Bryant, of Salem, Va., was called home to be with The Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 19, 2008. She will be joining her loving husband, Carl Bryant, whom she married on October 18, 1945. Alma was born on March 14, 1920, and shared a birthday with her great-great-niece, Ashleigh Woolwine, which was one of her special joys. Alma now journeys to Heaven to greet her parents, Cana and Lucy Wade; sisters, Neva Ellis and Melba Harris; brothers, Newton and Curtis Wade; and a very special niece, who was like a daughter, Glenda H. Bruffey. Aunt Susie leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, including Lionel and Darlene Ellis, Anita and James Firebaugh; and her caregivers, Melvin and Jennifer Harris. Many thanks go to Carolyn Hunt and son, Matthew, for all the weekly rides to visit her loving, and devoted sister's prior to their deaths during the last 30 years, Ruth Wade for the beautiful roses, Claudine and Calvin Spradlin for fruit and vegetables, Barbara and Larry Akins, Arlie Mabry, Debi Martin, Pat Tolbert for the visits. You all know she loved your visits and anticipated future ones and to many more friends including her fellow church members at Edgewood Christian Church thank you for your prayers and food deliveries when she was at her home. The last week of her life was shared with many loving family members and friends. A special thank you goes to Carolyn Hunt, Michelle Woolwine and Gina Hunt. Gina we truly believe you singing, Will The Circle Be Unbroken, helped her let go and go home. The Oaks at Richfield was her home and her extended family. Thank you for all the loving and tender care you provided. Susie stayed busy since the passing of Carl, making quilts and afghans for family, friends, veterans and our elderly. Her memory along with her "pieces of art" will warm our hearts and bodies. A celebration and remembrance will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park with the Elder David Workman officiating. Flowers are welcomed or memorial tributes may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or to the Cystic Fibrosis Association, or to Edgewood Christian Church or to Salem Church of Christ. The family will be receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.

It is truly with great sadness that I write this today. Susie, you will be greatly missed by me and my family.
In the years immediately following the death of my Dad, both Susie and Carl helped fill an empty void that I assumed would be impossible to fill. I will be forever grateful for all that they did for me.
I have no doubt that Susie is already preparing to make new quilts - one for every angel in heaven.

So sorry for the loss you have suffered. Wasn't fortunate enough to know her very long but she was such a good Christian woman and everyone loved her. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Roberta Caldwell

MY PRAYER FOR YOU.
Almighty Father, eternal God, hear our prayers for Your daughter Alma Wade Bryant whom You have called from this life to Yourself.
Grant her light, happiness, and peace.
Let her pass in safety through the gates of death, and live forever with all Your saints in the light You promised to Abraham and to all his descendants in faith.
Guard her from all harm and on that great day of resurrection and reward raise her up with all Your saints.
Pardon her sins and give her eternal life in Your kingdom.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
