Amelia Tames Obituary

Amelia A. Tames, 95, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Tames; sons, Louis J. Tames and Mark C. Tames; and son-in-law, David L. Myers.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara A. Tames and Julie Tames-Hale (and husband, Mark Hale).
Amelia was born and raised in Roanoke. A graduate of Jefferson High School and Roanoke College, she taught first grade in Roanoke City Schools for 24 years before retiring. She was also a dedicated volunteer with Pediatric Oncology at Roanoke Memorial Hospital for 24 years. In her spare time, she was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, and gardener.
Amelia was a proud lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She was active in church organizations and committees and was an enthusiastic hostess at the Roanoke Greek Festival for many years.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 27, 2024, with the Trisagion Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with Father Theodore Lyketsos officiating. Interment to follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Huntington Blvd., Roanoke, VA 24012. Online condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.Oakeys.com.
