Barbara Wright

1938 - 2025

Barbara Jane Davis Wright, 87, passed away Fri., Dec. 26, 2025 at York Post Acute in Yorktown, Va.

She was born Mar. 31, 1938 in Lynchburg, Va. to Albert Lewis Davis and Helen Virginia Denning. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Roanoke in 1956 and studied nursing at Roanoke Memorial Hospital (RMH) where she became an RN. During her nursing career she always worked for either RMH or an affiliated doctor's office.

She married Harold Wright Sr on Oct. 25, 1958. They were active members at Grandin Court Baptist Church in Roanoke until Harold passed away in 1999. She moved to Yorktown to live with her children in 2003 and was an active member at Orcutt Baptist Church before becoming homebound. She loved both her churches and enjoyed attending and serving there. She enjoyed travel, playing cards and games with friends, and any sweet dessert, especially ice cream.

Barbara is survived by her children: Deborah Wright of Williamsburg and Wayne (Sherry) Wright of Yorktown; grandchildren, Sandra Wright Sage (Aron) of Wheat Ridge, Colo. and Jack Wright of Yorktown; and great-granddaughter, Arya Sage of Wheat Ridge, Colo. She is also survived by her brother, Gene (Leslie) Davis and family of Lynchburg; sister, Sharon (John) Phelps of New Kent; and sister-in-law, Pat Davis and family of Lynchburg. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Ronnie Davis.

Barbara chose anatomical donation for her earthly body. The family invites you to attend a celebration of her life at 1 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 31 at Orcutt Baptist Church, 653 Oyster Point Lane, Newport News 23602. Visitation with the family will precede at noon at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts should be directed to Orcutt Baptist Church.
