Betty Fields Obituary

Betty Vaughan Fields

April 20, 1932 - February 16, 2025

Service to be held Saturday, February 22nd 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Roanoke in Faith Chapel.

Betty Jean Vaughan Fields, 92 of Roanoke, VA passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 16, 2025. She was born in Durham, NC on April 20,1932 to Margaret and Onice Vaughan. She spent many years on Grandview Farm in Montvale, VA where many fond memories were made with friends and family.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree as a Registered Nurse from Duke University in 1954. She met the love of her life, Jesse Wellons Fields and they were married March 3,1962. They had 63 wonderful years together! Their marriage was the ultimate example of, "The two shall become one." Their quality of life and depth of love for one another came through the grace of Jesus Christ. They were led by the Holy Spirit to attend First Baptist Church of Roanoke, VA in 1962. Over their 63 years at First Baptist they met and made so many dear friends.

Betty was a devoted wife, loving mother, precious Nana and loyal friend to so many. She had a genuine servant's heart and cared deeply and sacrificially for others. As a hostess, she always made sure everyone's plate was full. She was a true JEWEL!

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Jesse Wellons Fields, son Jonathan Wellons Fields (Christa) and daughter Elizabeth Fields Padula. She was the sweetest Nana to Greylyn Vaughan Padula, Avery Padula Rice ( Peter) and Robert Paul Padula, Jr. She recently welcomed her great- grandson James Ellis Rice in November. She is also survived by her sister Sybil Witt, brother Spurgeon Vaughan (Carolyn), sister-in-law Mildred Daniel and nephews Tim Witt (Nancy), Jeremy Vaughan (Dawn), Sandy Daniel (Jane), niece Jenny Sheffield (Jeff) and several great nieces and nephews. We also want to recognize Carolyn Garner, her long- time special friend since 1964.

There is NO DOUBT by all who knew her that when she met her Savior she heard,.

"Well done my good and faithful servant!"
