Carroll Snidow Obituary

Carroll Givens Snidow, 85, of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, August 8, 2007. He was born in Christiansburg, the son of Lloyd R. and Mattie Givens Snidow. Mr. Snidow was a Lt. in the Air Force during World War II, where he flew B-24's on eighteen bombing missions. On the eighteenth mission his plane was shot down and he spent eight months as a POW in Germany. He was awarded the Air Medal and three Oak Leaf Clusters. Carroll was a member of the 8th Air Force Association and a 1948 graduate of Virginia Tech, Industrial Engineering. After graduation, he was employed with Texaco, Inc., during which time he served as District Manager for four years in the Roanoke area. Mr. Snidow retired from Texaco, Inc. with thirty-seven years of service. He was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, The Friendship Class, and the U.M.M. Carroll was a member and Past President of the Business Men's Club, and a member of the Airport Activities Committee and a longtime volunteer with the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission. Carroll was a longtime member of the Roanoke Valley Chapter of American Ex-Prisoners of War. Surviving are his wife, Norma Lee Mitchum Snidow; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Lee and Michael T. Howard of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a son and daughter-in-law, David Carroll and Mary Snidow of Richmond; four grandchildren, Mary Carter and Katie Snidow, of Richmond; John and Molly Howard of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a brother, Marcus R. Snidow of Sherman, Texas; and a sister, Edith S. Dollins of Waynesboro. The family wishes to thank the nursing and support staffs in Unit 4-H at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem for their diligent care. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2007 from Raleigh Court United Methodist Church with the Reverend Barry Scott Foster officiating. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park's Chapel of Light Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2007 at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Foundation of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, 1706 Grandin Road SW, Roanoke, VA 24015.

Sandy,

I'm so sorry to hear about the death of your father. Please know that your colleagues and friends at Pittsburgh Seminary will have you in our thoughts and prayers.
