Curtis Andrews Obituary

Curtis Allen Andrews

January 26, 1953 - October 19, 2024

Curtis Allen Andrews, 71, of Salem, Virginia, slipped away quietly at Lewis Gale Medical Center on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

Curtis was born in Mt. Airy, North Carolina on January 26, 1953, to the late J. Willard and Nellie Beatrice Anders Andrews, and grew up in the small rural community of Carsonville, Va. During his senior year of high school, he moved to Salem and was a graduate of Glenvar High School. During this time, he worked for the Green Market Supermarket in the meat department. After graduation, Curtis attended Virginia Western Community College and began working for the City of Salem Parks and Recreation. Lastly, he took a job with Radar Transit and truly enjoyed meeting new people and getting them where they needed to go. He quickly became the Director of Radar Transit until his retirement.

A favorite past time, Curtis loved to shag dance and the beach music he danced to. He also enjoyed playing golf and would take the opportunity to play on new courses near where many Radar Expo business trips were held. Above all, Curtis adored his family, and nothing could compare to spending time with his sons. He made sure to share a weekly meal together to stay connected and he would often drop in at his son's garage just to spend some time.

Those left to cherish is memory are his former wife, Anne Fisher Andrews, of Salem; sons, Corey Allan Andrews, of Lynchburg, John Richard Andrews and his wife, Catherine, of Salem, Curtis Paul Andrews, of Salem, and Timothy Neal Andrews and his wife, Aldijana, of Salem; brother, Nicky R. Andrews and his wife, Bobbie, of Roanoke; nephews, Christopher Andrews and his wife, Shannon, of Powhatan, Va., and Mark Andrews and his wife, Kelly, of Chesapeake, Va.; grandchildren, Aidan John Andrews, Charles Tate Andrews, Mary Catherine Andrews, and Laila Anne Andrews, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him greatly.

The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. A Celebration of Life memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Terry Cooper officiating.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the medical staff of the Cardiac ICU at Lewis Gale Medical Center for the compassionate and loving care given to the family during such a difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Unlimited Ministry, a ministry serving special needs children and adults and their families and held at Fellowship Community Church, 1226 Red Lane Ext., Salem, Va. 24153.
