Danny Fowler Obituary

Danny Lee Fowler

April 15, 1950 - February 25, 2024

Danny Fowler, of Roanoke, Virginia, was born on April 15, 1950. He passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at his home in Roanoke, Virginia. Danny opened the first professional and licensed tattoo studio in the Roanoke Valley. Danny owned and operated Ancient Art Tattoo studio for 51 years, from day one to the day of his death. Danny is also the inventor of the first adjustable tattoo machine which he designed, manufactured, and sold all over the world. Danny wrote articles for his field and was published in many tattoo magazines all over the world. Before tattooing Danny served one tour in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Aboard the ship is where he learned the art of tattooing. The family would like to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice staff, Lucas Wagoner, and Teddy and Penny Springs for their care of Danny during his time of need. Danny's wish was for his legacy, Ancient Art, to carry on, and therefore left the business to his best friend and most loyal tattoo artist Teddy Springs. Danny did not wish to have any kind of service and this wish is being upheld by the family. Ancient Art and Time Machine will remain open and continue to operate as Danny's World Famous Ancient Art Tattoo Studio and Time Machine.

I meet Danny one time through his sister Bonnie Hager. We went to his house to have lunch and spend the day at his pool. I don´t think I´ve meet a more kinder and polite gentleman in my life. I remember a lot of laughs and kind words, he just made me feel very welcome to be there and I remember it was a fun time. Bonnie, his sister is very lucky to have had him as her brother. I never seen Danny again, but I would ask Bonnie off and on about Danny. He was a very kind person and he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.

I met Danny in 1989 as a student at Virginia Tech when i went to his shop to get me first tattoo. I returned several times, and brought many friends along for their tattoos over the next few years. Danny was eager to show pictures of the cars he was working on, and was always a pleasant guy to be around. Rest in Peace Danny. My sincerest condolences to all of his friends and family.
