David Michael Bartee, 60, of Hardy, passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Dave graduated from National Business College and was a longtime employee of US Airways. Wow! This is a slammer.Dave and I started NBC summer of 69 and immediately became best of friends. I have tried to find him through info, on line and references but to no avail. I was in Rke yesterday for Dr. visit and looked up the boys dorm, Highland hall and was flooded with heart warming memories and wishes to find him. Today I know where he is. What a dear friend. So tough to find out 10 years later. Remembered him at Texas Tavern yesterday when we would make a midnight run for heartburn. Remembered him at RMH where I recommended him for a position with me in the credit dept. He took to it like a duck to water. Strange the feeling I have now thinking I still had my old friend. We took a wk long camping trip in the Smokies. We were both Cancers so we conflicted quite often, but we were able to joke it off. Saw him in 2012 and met his wonderful wife Lynn in Vinton. What a wonderful lady. Fate has a way of surprising us. What a fantastic friend. Love you Dave!

I was so saddened to hear of Dave's death. We have been friends for over 30 years--we became friends through Jaycee activities in the early 80's and then at Piedmont--he as a ticket agent and me as a flight attendant. I'm still commuting out of Roanoke and saw him frequently, it's just not the same without him. I think of him so often. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Lynne, John, Parents, & Family,
I was so saddened to hear that Dave had suddenly passed away. He and I worked together, in Roanoke, when we were still Piedmont Airlines. Dave was that perfect combination of being both a great co-worker and a lot of fun. Over the years, as I moved around, it was always such a pleasure to return and see Dave's bright, smiling face at the airport, and be greeted with a hug and a laugh or two, while we reminisced about the "good old days". He was a true gentleman, and will certainly be missed by all.
May your family find some measure of comfort in knowing what a positive imprint he has left on the lives of the many who knew him. Blessings to each of you.

I am so very sorry to hear about Dave. As I retired flight attendant, I got to know him. He had such a great personality and was always very helpful to me and Piedmont/US Airways customers. It was always such a joy to come into the airport and see his smiling face! Dave will be sorely missed by so many; I am sure that ticket counter will not be the same without him. My prayers are with his family and friends. May God comfort you all.

David and I attended NBC together. He was one of my first friends at National. Bartee was full of mischief, but always had a smile. As college friends sometime do, we drifted apart; each to their own lives. I would hear of him from time to time and remember how we (the gang) would hang together and have some funny, funny times. My heart and prayers are now sent to his family and friends. I am so very sorry. When I think of Dave, it will be with fond memories.
Rest in Peace Bartee......

I met Dave when he was a student at National Business College. We became part of a special group of people that had great times together. He always had a good sense of humor and was always up for fun. And yes, he was very polite and caring. After about 35 years we got back in contact. Whenever I came to Roanoke, several of us would meet at Montano's for drinks and to share old times. It is fitting that his celebration of life will be at Montano's. I wish I could be there.

Dave was a wonderful ticket/gate Agent. I worked for Piedmont and appreciated his knowledge and help for my parents when they traveled. It was always reassuring to me that someone of Dave's skill was there to help send them on their way and answer his questions. We shall miss him.

David will be missed. I started working at the Roanoke Airport in 1993 and remember seeing Dave at the other end of the checkin counters at USAir checkin while I worked for United. When I needed seats I would call and when he answered I would say its your friendly UA agent at the other end and we would look at each other and wave. I will miss that every day. My deapest sympathy for the family and know that David will be missed.

My Condolences to David's parents, sister Terry and David's family.
How wonderful it was to suddenly check into David's booth at the Roanoke Airport this summer on my way to Paris! David recognized me before I could check my bags and I was shocked to see him after all these years.
I was David's fourth grade teacher at Bellevue in Danville, VA and what a delight to talk a few moments of those memories we had there. I am sorry I missed out on knowing he worked so close to my area and I am equally sorry he left us so suddenly.

I miss seeing your professional, debonair self at the UsAir ticket counter. You were always so helpful when I would need to switch passengers from my airline to yours. I remember our last conversations (not work related) about the Vermont Country Store. You were talking about nostalgic candy. Then, we talked about one of your passengers, Ms.Hinkle, and her being your school teacher, who then became my principal in Elementary school....You will be missed by so many!!!

I worked with Dave for six years and many days that I came into work that he was there he had a funny or tender story to tell me about his wife or his son. He would bring me pimento cheese from Tinnells because he knew I loved it and didn't get into that area of town very often. I will miss his kind ways and sense of humor most of all.
