As a former education colleague of David's, I was so fortunate to have many opportunities to visit with him after his retirement about his amazing artistic projects. His enthusiasm for painting mirrored his enthusiasm for life. He will be fondly remembered for his deep compassion for others. I will miss him greatly, and hope that his family may know how much he touched the lives of so many people.

I was a work study student in the graduate education deparatment at Va Tech in the early 70s. Dr. Hutchins was one of my favorite professors, always kind with a good word for everyone. I am saddened to learn of his passing. May fond memories of good times help the family through these difficult days.

Dear Marilyn, Mark, Jon, and Isaiah,
Words can not begin to say how sorry we were to hear of Dave's passing. We have such fond memories of him. Jim thought so highly of him and especially of his teaching. We remember his warmth and kindness on each of our meetings. He had such a neat smile and laugh. Please know that all of you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Marilyn,
So sorry to hear of David's death yesterday. What a stalwart soldier he was for so long....and you a compassionate caregiver. He'll be missed by many but will certainly live on in his marvelous artwork. Love to you and yours, Virginia and Dick Bethune
