David Kerns Obituary

David Waldon Kerns, 36, formerly of Blacksburg, passed away Monday, December 17, 2007 in Charlotte, N.C. He was the son of Waldon R. Kerns and the late Gayle Crabill Kerns of Blacksburg, Va. He is survived by his wife, Jane Knox Kerns, of Charlotte, N.C. David attended Gilbert Linkous, BMS and BHS. While in Blacksburg he was a member of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church. David was a fine young man who enjoyed running with his cross country teammates. In the late 80s and early 90s he ran on three State Championship Cross Country teams while at Blacksburg High School. He went on to be a member of championship cross country teams during his four years at Davidson College in North Carolina. Later he earned an MS degree in accounting at Wake Forest University. He was employed by the KPMG accounting firm in Charlotte, N.C. To celebrate his life, a memorial service will be held Friday, December 21, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Comforter, 2701 Park Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28209. There will be a reception at the church following the service. His ashes will be buried in Blacksburg, Va. at a later date. To honor David's love for cross country running and his accomplishments, a memorial scholarship fund has been established at David's alma mater, Davidson College. The David W. Kerns Memorial Fund, Davidson College, N.C. 28035. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to this fund.

Jane, my wife and i were very sorrow to hear about Dave. We are glad that we had the oppertunity to have known him for the past 15 years. We went with dave & bobby to a basketball game when they lived in Winston Salem and too when he did the BIBLE reading in bobby,s wedding.
