Doris P. Light, 81, of Roanoke, Virginia, died peacefully on Sunday, October 9, 2022, after a prolonged illness.

Doris retired after a lengthy career as an administrative professional at Cave Spring Middle School. She loved all the kids that came through Cave Spring Middle School and was always at work early and stayed late. Doris loved being a homemaker and was an excellent self-taught cook. Having her family with her at all times brought great joy and happiness. She was an avid camper and was known for supervising the camp set up. She and her husband of 62 years, the Rev. Horace D. Light Jr., traveled around the world and enjoyed their dream trip of going across the United States in their motorhome along with her brothers and their wives. She sang in the choir and was an ideal pastor's wife in all the churches where Horace served as pastor. Doris was a member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Horace D. Light Jr.; daughter, Diane Tyler (Mike); son, Mark W. Light (Anita); granddaughters, Michaelia Tyler (Nick), Hannah Trent (Austin), and Meg Krug (Andrew); grandson, Joe Hammerstrom (Frannie); great-grandchildren, Anna, Max, Hank, and Alice; sister, Faye Blevins; and brothers, Maurice Prillaman (Joyce) and Don Prillaman (Edith).

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Oakey's South Chapel. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Oak Grove Church of the Brethren with Pastor Tim Harvey officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
