Gladys Brown Tibbs UMBARGER

Gladys Brown Tibbs Umbarger, was born in Ceres, VA on December 5, 1919, daughter of the late Willis and Mae Kitts Tibbs, and passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Leroy Robert Umbarger; son, Robert Keith Umbarger; and grandson, Henry Jacob Dillow. Since 1945, Gladys was a member of Red Oak United Methodist Church and a member of United Methodist Women. She was a very humble woman and a devout Christian. Gladys touched so many lives; not only her family and friends, but her extended family and "adopted children." We are so blessed that she loved all of us.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Margie and Lonny Gay, Joan and Frank Chandler, Vicki and Charlie Dillow, Cindy and Kim Wright; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Becky Umbarger, Donald and Linda Umbarger, John and Cindy Umbarger, Kenny and Jean Umbarger; 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Milton Kitts; brother, Larry Tibbs; sisters-in-law, Mona Leigh Tibbs and Claudine Tibbs; numerous nieces and nephews; friends and caretakers, Martha Cregger, Peggy Sue Ellison and Violet DeWilde.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Red Oak United Methodist Church with the Reverend Donald Umbarger and Reverend Leon O'Quinn officiating. Interment will follow in Red Oak UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bland Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Red Oak Cemetery Fund c/o Betty Harden, 7009 W. Bluegrass Trail, Ceres, VA 24318.
