Jack Gravett Obituary

Jack Leigh Gravett, 77, of Roanoke, beloved husband and father, passed away on June 24, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Sterne and Charles Lewis Gravett; brothers, James Wilson (Billy), Edwin Clement, and Charles Lewis; as well as sister, Joanne Frances Taylor. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Faye Dickerson Gravett; daughters, Faye Hayes Gravett, of Roanoke, Mary Patrick, and husband, David, of Fairfax, Nina Pattakos, and husband, Nicholas, of Bethesda, Md., Joanne Leigh Liptrap, and husband, Scott, of Roanoke; beloved grandson, Joshua Leigh Patrick; and a sister, Virginia Lucas. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, JoAnne Hacay, and husband, Larry, of Venice, Fla. and Betty Gravett of Roanoke; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Gravett served in the Virginia National Guard for 13 years as a 1st Lieutenant and retired from Rish Equipment Co. after 44 years of service. Special recognition goes to all of his caregivers, including Shirley, Michelle, Alicia, Rita, LaDonna, Peggy, Dr. Stephen Couture, Dr. Steven Harris, Dr. Rodney Poffenberger, and Dr. Timothy Hormel. The service to celebrate his life will be 10 a.m., Tuesday at Oakey's South Chapel with Msgr. Joseph Lehman officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday at Oakey's South Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825-A Electric Road, Roanoke, Va. 24018, or Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church, 2505 Electric Road, Roanoke, Va. 24018.
