Jacqueline Shirley Bloxom
March 16, 1945 - August 17, 2025
Jacqueline Shirley Bloxom, 80, of Roanoke, Va., passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Jackie was born on March 16, 1945, to Horace Shirley and Clarabelle Matthews Shirley in Blackwater, Va. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, William "Mike" Bloxom.
Jackie and Mike created a life focused on love, devotion and joy. Jackie lived a full life and taught us all the true meaning of love, determination, kindness, and service to others.
Jackie is survived by sister, Adabelle Riddick and husband, Pat, of Blackwater, Va., and brother, Curtis Shirley and wife, Cheryl, also of Blackwater. Also surviving are her sons, Brian M. Bloxom and wife, Jessica, of Woodbridge, Va., and Jason L. Bloxom and wife, Danielle, of Roanoke, Va., and the lights of her world, grandchildren, Spencer and Preston Bloxom, Jalen Arrington, Ashlyn Fay and River Bloxom. She is also survived by her many very cherished nieces and nephews as well as countless special friends and family members.
Born in the Blackwater area of Virginia Beach, Jackie graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1963, then attended Chowan College. Later, Jackie and family relocated to Roanoke due to Mike's banking career. Jackie worked for 14 years for Virginia Beach Social Services and retired from the County of Roanoke with 20 years of service. She later was employed part-time for seven years at Oakey's Funeral Service in Roanoke.
Jackie was a devoted mother and grandmother who always put her children first. She dedicated her life to her family and poured all her heart into raising her boys with love, patience and compassion. Jackie's loving spirit also extended to other family members and friends who were like family. She always created a welcoming space where people felt heard and cared for. Whether offering a sweet treat, thoughtful gift or card, a bit of advice or just a listening ear, she had an amazing way of making people feel just like family.
Jackie loved to laugh and took great joy in the beautiful little things in life such as watching the birds and other wildlife or tending to her flowers and plants. She just had an incredible way of always making people feel special. Jackie also spent countless hours giving back to the community through volunteering her time with the Troutville Baptist Church including their food pantry and helping at the Solomon's Mission charity. She was always thinking of others with her giving spirit.
As a grandma she found such joy and delight spending time with her grandchildren. She was the ultimate cheerleader for their lives and was generous in her time and attention to their interests, whether it was celebrating birthdays and holidays, attending school events or cheering from the sidelines at their soccer or basketball games. She passed down not only time-honored traditions but also her values of kindness, patience, service to others, determination and the importance of togetherness. Her legacy will live on through her grandchildren and those who were blessed to know her.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to her many dear friends and neighbors who helped assist Jackie with such love and devotion, as well as the wonderfully dedicated and caring staff at Sheila S. Strauss Hospice House who provided such tender and attentive care in her final days.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Oakey's East Chapel on Cloverdale Road from 6 to 8 p.m. Jackie's funeral service will be held at Blackwater Baptist Church in Virgina Beach on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who would like to donate in Jackie's name to either Troutville Baptist Church, the Sheila S. Strauss Good Samaritan House or simply perform an act of kindness in memory of our beloved Jackie. Condolences may be shared with her family by visiting
