Jim was a great guy always giving back to the community. He donated (his idea) the land to build the first paved Greenway in the Roanoke Valley at Garst Mill Park. What a great gift to the community! R.I.P. Jim.

Jim was a loyal, hardworking, gregarious member of the Midweek Trail Crew. We shared many happy memories working together not only in the Roanoke valley, but many trails throughout Southwest Virginia. I will really miss him. He was a fun guy!

Don & Tammy Campbell: We were able to get too know James in many areas after moving to Roanoke in the early 1980´s I was looking for a dentist and a friend at work suggested her dentist. Which was James. The first time I went in his office and there was a picture of him up in the northern forest of Alaska and I said hey, there´s places like that down home up on White Top Mountain. At my next check up, he presents me with pictures of him up on White Top Mountain. And we found out we had a lot in common been from same branch of service Army. I´m just so glad I was blessed with getting to know him even in the later years of his life when we run into him at Outback.

What a guy! So happy to have known him. I was his roommate on a trip through the South Island of New Zealand with the Wrights. Never a dull moment with Jim, even when you were begging for one. A great loss.

Jim was one in a million. I was fortunate enough to know Jim and his family for many years and work with him as well. One of the funniest people I have ever met. He always had hilarious advice and never met a stranger. He was loved by all who met him....and it is so easy to see why. He was curious about everything and loved to hear what was going on with everyone. He will be greatly missed by all he touched. RIP Jim
