Joe Conner Obituary

Joe Conner, 86, of Lexington, died Friday, December 5, 2008 in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Born July 7, 1922 In Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Robert Taylor Conner and Lena Miller Conner. He was a retired police chief at VMI. In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by his wife, Arlene Brown Conner. Surviving are his children, Joe Allen Conner, of Natural Bridge, Barbara C. Sorrells, of Lexington, David Dean Conner and Deborah C. Flint, both of Natural Bridge; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Agnes Whiteside, of Natural Bridge and Dimple Conner, of Lexington; special companion, Carrie H. Vanness, of Lexington and her children, Karen Turpin, of Lexington, Mary Gold Parrent, of Glasgow and Donna Potter, of Lexington. Also surviving are special friends, Irene and Waverly Branch. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens with Dr. William Klein officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 8, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Harrison Funeral Home, and any other time at the home of Carrie. Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Va.
