Joyce Bowman Johnson, 80, of Fincastle, Va., passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025.
She was the wife of the late James W. "Jimmy" Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Dennis Lucky Bowman and Mary Frances Holland Bowman; her sister, Marlene Grisso (Charlie); her brother, Dennis Eugene Bowman; her sister-in-law, Rheta Crowder (Herbert); and her brother-in-law, Emanuel Spickard.
Joyce was born on April 9, 1945, in Roanoke, Va. She graduated from Lord Botetourt High School in 1963. She was married to the love of her life, Jimmy, for 60 years. Together they owned and operated a successful dairy and beef cattle farm. With Jimmy, she enjoyed farming, gardening, and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Additionally, Joyce worked as a school secretary for Botetourt County Public Schools for 40 years. Her passion was being an active part of her grandchildren's lives, whether sharing the love of the farm, cooking, watching sports with Jack or supporting Kaeli in all of her musical and artistic endeavors. Her life was a beautiful example of faith in God, hard work, perseverance, love, and the importance of family and friends.
She is survived by her dearly loved family, daughter, Kristi Johnson Berry (Alan); grandchildren, Jack and Kaeli Berry; sister-in-law, Carolyn Sue Spickard; and nieces and nephews, Cindy Grisso, Connie Grisso, Greg Grisso, David Crowder, Suzanne Calvert, Greg Spickard, Keith Spickard, Angie Spickard Reo, and their extended families.
On Monday, May 19, 2025, the family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel, 6732 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019. The funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Danny Quirin officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
