Kathryn Martin Obituary

Kathryn C. Martin, 59, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 surrounded by her family and friends. She was a retired Cancer Nurse with Carilion, and was well respected by those who knew her. She spent a lot of her time teaching and helping others. She loved her family dearly and was loved by all of her family. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Charles Martin; sister, Elaine Counts Smyte; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Keith Dunbar; son, David Martin; two special girls, Hollie and McKenzie who knew her as their Nanna Kathy; several nieces and nephews and very special family and friends; brother-in-law, Donnie Martin and wife, Kathy. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Oakey's North Chapel with Pastor Roy J. Law officiating. The interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Oakey's North Chapel, 362-1237. Mom, we know you are home and we will see you soon.

I was saddened to hear of Mrs. Martin's death. I first met Mrs. Martin at Roanoke Memorial School of Practical Nursing. Ten years later we met again, when I decided to continue my education in Nursing. She was my mentor during an Oncology clinical rotation. She will never know how many lives she has touched through her career and by those she has taught. Mrs. Martin always represented what a " Professional Nurse" should be. I will never forget her wisdom and I continue to carry what she taught me each day of my nursing career. I can still see her adjust her eye glasses when I couldn't don (put on) those sterile gloves. Of course it is amusing now. I will always remember her fondly. God bless each member of Mrs. Martin's family.
