Mattie Bryant Obituary

Mattie Long Bryant, of Spring Valley, New York peacefully departed this earthly life on November 26, 2012. She triumphantly entered this horizon on November 8, 1926, in Roanoke, Virginia. Mattie was predeceased by her parents, James Edward and Viola Moon Long, five brothers and three sisters.
She received her education from the Roanoke City Public Schools, A&T University, New York University and Montclair State University. First Baptist Church of Spring Valley was blessed to have her as a faithful and productive servant of God. For more than sixty years, she was a dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Precious memories of Mattie will persevere forever by her loving daughter, Deborah Bryant-Bernstein (Peter), Jersey City, N.J.; a devoted son, Robert Alan Bryant Jr. (Helyn), Hillcrest, N.Y.; honorary daughters, Christine Davis, of N.J., Tammy Gamble and Yvette Marchman; and honorary son, William (Woody) Woodlon, all of N.Y.; adorable grandchildren, Christian A. Barnett, Rachael A. Bryant, Jesse Elizabeth Bernstein, James A. Bryant and Tyler G. Bryant, all of N.Y.; honorary grandchildren, Derrick and Paula Polk, of N.J., Dana Harris and Ariadne Molina, both of N.Y.; honorary great-grandchild, Julian Polk, of N.J.; three sisters, Elise L. Terry, Greensboro, N.C., Irene L. Stephens, Roanoke and Lillian L. Woodard, Tallahassee, Fla.; sister-in-law, Elizabeth R. Long, Roanoke; a host of wonderful nieces, nephews; other relatives and legions of friends and acquaintances.
The celebration of a momentous life will occur on Monday, December 3, 2012, with family and friends visitation at 10 a.m. followed by the 11 a.m. service in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel, with Dr. Edward T. Burton officiating. There will be no viewing on Sunday. Arrangements by Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home. Condolences can be sent to www.Hamlar-Curtis.com.

I am sorry for the loss of your mother. Loosing a loved one so close to you can hurt so deep. Psalm 86:6,7 assures that God will provide comfort in this time of distress. May his word get you through.
