Michael Dugas Obituary

Michael Joseph Dugas

April 21, 1946 - February 15, 2022

Michael J. Dugas, 75, of Troutville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, following a brief illness. Mike was a proud proponent of the United States, our American values, and his conservative beliefs. He will be sorely missed by many.

Mike was the oldest of eight children born to "Miss Mae" and "Mr. Ivy" Dugas in Donaldsonville, La. A studious son, Mike graduated as Valedictorian of Donaldsonville High School and set the bar high for his siblings to follow. After high school, he attended Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers!) and earned a commission in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Captain.

Besides his "book smarts," Mike was a gifted carpenter and skilled handyman. He worked in the construction industry after his service, excelling in project management of small and large scale projects across the county.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Ivy Dugas Sr. and a special uncle and friend, Jean Dugas.

Mike is survived by his mother, Mae Marie Dugas; his beloved wife, Charlotte Sue Dugas, whom he loved dearly and adored; his sons, Brett Dugas, Blake Dugas (Courtney), Christopher Shelton (Jill), and Jeffrey Shelton (Kathleen); "Papa Mike's" grandchildren, Rex, Hunter, Daniel, Abby, Chloe, Jordi, and Emily; and siblings, Myra Sentilles (Gerald), Kathy Acosta (Kenny), Donna Dugas, Wayne Dugas (Sue), Vera Sanchez (Eric), Terry Dugas (Penny), and Ivy Dugas Jr. (Desiree). Mike also is survived by 17 nieces and nephews and 24 great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Funeral Mass is scheduled at 12 noon on Friday, February 25, 2022, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Friends and family may gather at the church for visitation from 11 a.m. until 12 noon preceding the service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.oakeys.com.

Michael was a first cousin to my first wife Gail. We loved the Dugas family reunions because that Michael could dance. He was so much fun to have around. He and his family made a visit to our military installation to visit with us. Although short in time, we enjoyed every minute of it. Will be dearly missed.
