"LaVerne" Richards, 93, of Boones Mill, VA, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025. She was born on October 11, 1931, in Copper Hill, VA, to the late Samuel and Elzora Conner.
She retired from General Electric with over 25 years of service. LaVerne attended Red Hill Baptist Church. She had a green thumb and loved to garden. LaVerne enjoyed being out in the country and really liked to be at her Floyd home. Family was very important to her, and she loved her family very much.
In addition to her parents, LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Richards Jr.; son, Barry Manning; and five brothers, Maynard, Harold, Jerry, Roger and Andy Conner.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Nicholson; son, Tim Manning; grandson, Adam Manning; brother, William Conner (Ibby); sister-in-law, Ann Vokanas (Bill) and her son, Doug Horchler; several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Rest Vale Cemetery, Copper Hill. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. Online condolences may be shared with her family by visiting www.Oakeys.com.

LaVerne was a special woman. She was one of the strongest, and most family dedicated person I have ever met. They do not make them like LaVerne anymore. Charlie will be happy to greet her in heaven.

I loved Lavern like a sister for almost 40 years, I thought of her every day. I will miss her cheerful grace and presents, she was like her mother in that way. She never had an unkind word for anyone, always looked for the good in everyone. I loved her very much, will miss her........Gail
