Nettie Frances Hurt James

Nettie Frances Hurt James, 96, of Bedford, Va., died on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. She was born in Bedford on September 30, 1914, a daughter of the late John Balda Hurt and Lula Jane Wilson Hurt. She was a member of Otterville United Methodist Church and was a retired seamstress and supervisor with Bedford Dress Factory. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Gillette James; a brother, John A. Hurt; and a sister, Gracie Louise Hurt Clark. She is survived by her daughter, Edith James Weeks and husband, Gene; three grandchildren, David Weeks and wife, Donna, Doug Weeks, and Kim Weeks Lucas; four great-grandchildren, Josh Weeks, Jessica Weeks, C.J. Weeks and Jill Lipscomb; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Otterville United Methodist Church and Bedford Life Saving Crew. A Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Suck Spring Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. John Salley officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening, November 19, 2010, at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, Bedford, Va., 540-586-7360.
