Patrick Leach Obituary

Patrick Averill Leach, 62, of Roanoke, Va., passed away early on Wednesday morning, November 26, 2008, at a local hospital after a brief illness. Pat is survived by his adored wife of 42 years, Betty Dube Leach; and his cherished daughters, Charlotte Gardiner and Emily Parker. Patrick is also survived by sons-in-law, Tom Gardiner and John Parker II; and two much loved granddaughters, Katherine Elizabeth Parker and Mary Ellen Parker. Cheryl and Dean Lindholm, lifelong friends and members of the family, also share this loss; along with devoted friends, Larry Semones, of Goodview, and Sammy Stamper, of Florida. Patrick is also survived by his mother, Elaine Leach, of Roanoke; brother, Michael Leach, of Bakersville, N.C.; and Michael's children, Derek and Tina. Countless other family and friends who were touched by Patrick's loving generosity of spirit will greatly miss Pat and the joyous way he had of making all who met him feel special and important. Patrick never knew a stranger and his limitless capacity to love and care for everyone he met will leave a mark on this earth that far outlast the brief time we had Patrick in our lives. Pat was born in Welch, W.Va., but spent most of his life raising his family in Roanoke, Va. Throughout his life, his primary dedications were God and family. Patrick served the City of Roanoke for 34 years as an accountant, and has spent the last four years enjoying a well-earned retirement. Pat was an active member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church where a memorial service celebrating his life will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2008. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank or South Roanoke United Methodist Church. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.lotzfuneralhome.com. Lotz Roanoke Chapel is serving the Leach family.

We were so shocked and saddened to read of Pat's death. We remember him well from the days when we all attended church together. He was always such an upbeat, smiling and kind man. We still can't believe that it's true. Please know that our hearts go out to all of you and that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Betty and family. I was absolutely shocked when I heard the news of Pat's passing. All of yesterday was continually saying 'I can't believe it." I told someone in the office about 5:00 yesterday afternoon that I would have never believed that I would have gotten this news today. Again, I am shocked.
My heart sinks when I think of the loved ones he has left behind. You and the family are in my prayers and I share, in a small way, your grief. Pat was a great friend for over 25 years and I charish the memories I have with him. If I can provide any comfort or support during this difficult time, please do not hesitate to call.
I remain his friend......
