Phyllis Bowling Obituary

Phyllis K. Bowling (nee Kelley) passed away on April 2, 2024, in Richmond, VA at the age of 87. Phyllis was born on September 25, 1936, in Roanoke, VA, and was a lifelong resident of the Roanoke Valley area.
She was an energetic, loving, and caring individual, passionate about her family, friends, and church. Phyllis faithfully attended First Baptist Church and loved the Lord. Phyllis was a Supervisor at J.C. Penney, where she dedicated many years of service until her retirement. In her leisure time, Phyllis enjoyed square dancing, gospel concerts, dinner theaters, and RSO. She had a love for traveling, playing cards with friends, and shopping with her daughters. Phyllis was also an avid fan of UVA sports and NASCAR racing.
Phyllis is survived by her daughters Kelly P. Baker of Henrico, VA, Gina P. Carter (Robert) of Sneads Ferry, NC, and son Jason M. Powell (Kelly) of Manchester, TN. She is also survived by four grandchildren Katlin K. Jones (Preston), Morgan R. Emo (Todd), Zachary M. Baker, and Devan T. Carter, six great-grandchildren, and other relatives. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, Harry "Cecil" Kelley and Mildred Jones Kelley, her first husband, James Franklin "Petie" Powell, her second husband, Edgar G. Bowling, her grandson Adam B. Baker, and other relatives.
A Celebration of Life for Phyllis will be scheduled later in Roanoke, VA. Charitable donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project at wounded-warriorsproject.org or to Liver Mommas & Families, Inc. at livermommas.org.

Dear family. Phyllis was such a pleasure to be around. We loved having her here at the Salem Senior Center. She was a sweet, kind lady who loved her friends and family. She will be sadly missed.
