Roger Dobbins Obituary

Roger Lee Dobbins, 67, of Radford, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012. He was born in Radford on July 7, 1944. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pauline Alderman Dobbins; his mother, Christine Dobbins; and his grandmother, Lucy (Nanie) Burton.
He started working at Lynchburg Foundry Company at age 18. Volvo Trucks North America hired him in 1986, where he continued to work until his death. Dear Kelly, Stacy and Mike,

You probably do not remember me; I umpired baseball in Radford when your father coached Mike in Little League. I also played with Roger on the LFC Streakers. Your father was very kind to me and was someone I could look up to as a younger player. He was a fine man, and there was never a dull moment when you were with him. His friendship and guidance meant alot to me. My family sends our condolences and prayers for a wonderful man, friend, and teammate. God bless and keep you in this difficult time.

I remember that smile and I will always remember his laugh. Stacy has the same laugh. Seeing all the old pictures Kelly has been posting on facebook really takes me back. I remember every detail about that house on Wadsworth Street. When I think about Roger I think about him laughing, and him and dad acting crazy. Lots and lots of memories... Good times. I hadn't seen him in many years but the love never goes away. Heaven received a special angel. :0)

I worked with Roger for quite a few years at Volvo and cannot remember ever seeing him without a smile. He was always such a joy to be around and never missed an opportunity to offer a helping hand to those in need. He will be greatly missed. I agree with Bob Litton's earlier comment- the world was a better place because of him.

To the Family,
We were so sorry to hear about Roger. Henley worked with Roger at Lynchburg Foundry and I worked with Pauline at Radford Foundry. You are in our prayers. We will never forget his smile or his pro style of pitching horseshoes.
