Ronald Ferguson Obituary

Ronald Lee Ferguson

January 12, 1948 - November 3, 2021

Ronald Lee Ferguson, 73, of Roanoke, passed away at home on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. He was raised in Rich Creek, Virginia, a son of the late Harry and Hallie Ferguson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Travis Ferguson.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War for two years and was stationed at Walter Reed as a medic for the last year.

Ron was employed by General Electric for 12 years in mechanical engineering, and also worked for Fiber Com of Roanoke, Virginia. He started his own lawn and landscaping company in 1991 and worked until he retired. He loved all of his customers and loved the outdoors.

Ron loved to make people laugh and always had a joke to tell. While he loved to hunt, you didn't mess with the deer in his backyard. He was passionate about old and new cars and won several trophies for showing his Trans Am Convertible. He enjoyed spending time with his friends rebuilding an El Camino. His eye for detail and pursuit of perfection was among his many talents. He was a member of the Star City Pontiac Club for many years and developed long lasting friendships from the Club. And lastly, he was a diehard Republican.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Trudy; daughter, Karla Ferguson-Granger (Glenn); grandsons, Christian LaFavor (Hannah) and Wyatt Ferguson, of Plymouth, Minnesota; step-grandchildren, Cody Granger and Skyler Granger; and brother, Timmy Ferguson (Deniece) of Martinsville, Va. Also he will be sadly missed by his fur babies, Mindy, Macie, El K "Mino", Khloe and Mysti and would sneak when his wife wasn't looking and feed them from his plate.

The family offers a very special thank you to Dr. Mark Taylor, Dr. Bankole, and Dr. Loschner for all of their continued help and support. Finally, his pain and suffering have ended.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, by son-in-law, Glenn Granger. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Birchlawn Burial Park Pearisburg, Va. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home, 366-0707.

I'm so very sorry to hear this. I worked with Ron at GE and count it as a blessing to have known him. I can truly say the world will never be the same without him. I am out of town and will be unable to attend the service, which I really regret. Take comfort in knowing he's in good hands!

Ron was a wonderful neighbor and friend for 30 years. I love the story that Dad and Mom would tell about being lifelong neighbors. From the Bowers Apartments, where Ron and Trudy lived and where my Dad lived. Then, to many years on Sierra Drive in Boxley Hills. I'm not sure how much time had passed since Ron and Trudy moved to a beautiful cul-de-sac down the road that Ron called Dad to tell him that the house next door was for sale. Dad bought that house and I cherish every memory of the home I grew up in, and where I came to know and love the Ferguson family. Trudy, Karla and Family, I will fervently be praying for your peace and healing. I know that Ron is with Jesus, and in the presence of God, his Father in Heaven. May God bless you and keep you. With all of my love & prayers,
Caroline

Ron was a good friend and colleague. Ron was always willing to lend a hand, or to give advice on projects in the garage. I have many fond memories of our years working together. Until we meet up again, rest in peace good friend.

I can only say that my life has been enriched by Ron Ferguson...and not just by the hundreds of jokes he's shared with me but also the sharing of our family stories and how we were both blessed to have such great parents. The last thing I said to Ron a couple of weeks ago was "I love you buddy" and he said the same. Good last words, I guess. So sorry Trudy.

Trudy,Carla and Family,

Sincere condolences for the loss of Ron. He was a man of many talents and always quick with a joke. Seemed he always had some kind of a project going on whether building a huge garage, rebuilding a car, car shows, or landscaping. All of his projects were done to perfection. Ron always was there when a family member was in need.
