William Robertson Obituary

William (Bill) Robertson, 81, of Pearisburg, Va., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg. Mr. Robertson was born in Ferrum, Va. and was a son of the late William C. and Mollie Woods Robertson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred R. Woods. Mr. Robertson was a World War II Veteran, enlisting in the U.S. Navy at age 16. He was an ordained Bishop and Evangelist with the Church of God in West Virginia. He shared and taught about his faith and love in the Lord to many people throughout his life. We as a family feel that we are the ones that are truly blessed to have had such a wonderful husband, father and grandfather in our lives for so many years. He touched each of us with his gentleness, patience and wisdom. He is survived by wife, Mamie (Betty) Robertson, of Pearisburg; one sister, Jean Blizin of Pittsboro, N.C.; four sons, Daniel and Leslie Robertson and Donald and Debra Robertson, of Inglewood, Fla., Robin and Maria Robertson, of Tobaccoville, N.C., Byron Robertson; and one daughter, Kimberly and Robie Reddy, of Roanoke; one stepdaughter, Kathy and Toby Phillips, of Pearisburg, 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Scottie. The family will receive friends at the Kellysville Church of God, Kellysville, W.Va. on Friday, February 27, 2009, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., with funeral services following at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Franklin Adkins officiating. Burial services will be conducted at the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Saturday at 11 a.m. with military honors given by American Legion Post #68 in Narrows, American Legion Post #311, American Legion Post #145 and VFW Post #6000 in Narrows. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kellysville Church of God, P.O. Box 6, Kellysville, W.Va. 24732, in his memory. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com, where directions to the church can also be found.
