Carlene Stead Obituary

Carlene Ester Stead

Mrs. Carlene Ester Stead, 101, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, March 15, 2026. Carlene was born in Robeson County to the late William Montgomery Britt and Laura Sasser on Feb. 18, 1925.

Along with her parents, Carlene was preceded in death by her husbands, Felton Johnson and Vernon Stead; three sons, Gerald Johnson, Steve Stead and Pete Stead; a daughter, Cathy Adams; four brothers, Robert Britt, Harvey Britt, Junior Britt and James Britt; three sisters, Thelma Britt, Francis Britt Elizabeth Britt.

Carlene will be remembered as someone who always worked, since she was 13-year-old, sometimes two or three jobs at a time. She loved to sew and knit. She made many homemade quilts that she gave away as Christmas gifts. She was a lifelong member of the East Lumberton Church of God.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Rice (Tim) of Lumberton, Deborah Andrews (Thomas) of Lumberton, Judy Adams of Lumberton, and Shan Musselwhite of Lumberton; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Glenflora for the care and comfort she received during her time. They would especially like to thank Pam, Bonnie and Cathy for their tender love and care.

A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at East Lumberton Church of God in Lumberton. Burial will follow the service at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 2 p.m. at East Lumberton Church of God in Lumberton with Pastor Tim Lewis officiating.
