JOSEPH "JOE" CANNON NICHOLSON JR.
FLORENCE, S.C. — Joseph "Joe" Cannon Nicholson Jr., 81, of Florence, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021.
Mr. Nicholson was born a son of the late Sarah McLean Nicholson and Joseph Cannon Nicholson Sr. Joe was a graduate of Lumberton High School and attended North Carolina State College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a member of First Baptist Church in Florence, and a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge. Mr. Nicholson was an announcer and DJ for several radio stations, including WTSB in Lumberton, WFMO in Fairmont, and WATA in Boone. He was also a staff announcer with WBTW and WPDE. He retired from Prudential Insurance Company and was currently employed with Floyd Financial Services.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, George Hector Nicholson; and his sister, Sarah Cameron Hall.
Mr. Nicholson is survived by his wife, Judith "Judie" Lynn Hodges Nicholson; daughter, Gina Cockrell (Bart) of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Joseph Cockrell, Katie Cockrell, and Andy Cockrell; brother, James David Nicholson of Lumberton; and sisters, Betsy Lucretia Redman, and Nancy McLean Nicholson, both of Lumberton.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 South Irby St., Florence, S.C. 29501.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Garden of Memories, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
