ROY CLARK
LUMBERTON — Rev. Roy Clark transitioned to Heaven on Feb. 13, 2023, at the age of 79, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
He was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their best for the Lord Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanette Clark, Bonnie Clark and Virginia Owens; and brothers, Delton Ray Clark, and Earl Locklear.
Rev. Clark completed several courses at Robeson Community College in Early Childhood Education and he completed his Associate's Degree in Christian Ministry at Lumbee River Christian College, formally Native American Bible Institute. He later served as president of Native American Bible Institute from July 1982 to July 1984.
Some of Rev. Clark's greatest joys were supporting his wife, Dr. Juanita Brooks Clark, in her efforts at obtaining her doctorate from South Carolina State University; supporting his son, Dr. Christopher Clark, in obtaining his doctorate from Liberty University; and supporting his daughter, Mrs. Kimberly Locklear, in obtaining her Masters in Early Childhood Education from East Carolina University. This love for learning permeated everything Preacher Roy did. This is abundantly evident in his mentoring of over 34 ministers over his 51 years of ministry at Faith Assembly of God Church in Saint Pauls.
Rev. Clark was the youngest of nine children, born to Archie and Tressie Locklear Clark of the Prospect Community. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 60 years, Dr. Juanita Brooks Clark of the home; his son, Dr. Christopher Clark and wife, Celia Clark, of Red Springs; Mr. Robin Clark of Red Springs; Mrs. Kimberly Clark Locklear and husband, Jared Locklear, of Hope Mills; and a grandchild they adopted, Mr. Brandon Lynn Clark of the home; a sister, Ella Francis Oxendine of the Union Chapel Community; and two brothers, Carl Glenn Locklear of Rennert, and Keith Clark of Red Springs.
In addition to his children, Rev. Clark leaves to cherish his memories his grandchildren, Joshua Clark, Stephen Trey Locklear, Lindora Jones, Jordan Clark Locklear, Hannah Rebeka Clark, Jace Garett Locklear, and Benjamin Christopher Clark; great-grandchildren, Shaniah Lynn Locklear, Skyler Grace Locklear, Layla Jones, and Azariah Kania Clark; two special nieces, Mrs. Carol Tyler, and Mrs. Cathy Trinidad; a special nephew, Mr. Tony Clark; and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at Faith Assembly of God. Entombment will follow at Lumbee Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, at Faith Assembly of God.
