Spencer Howington Obituary

SPENCER HOWINGTON

LUMBERTON — Spencer Howington, 56, of Lumberton, North Carolina, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 27, 2017.

Spencer was born in Scotland County on April 3, 1961, to the late H. Marvin Howington Sr. and Reather Jane Thompson Howington whom he joined in the heavenly journey.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Union Chapel Community Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Burnt Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 33 years, Frankie Oxendine Howington, and three children, Derrick James Harris (wife Heather) of Lumberton, N.C., Bryan Wayne Howington (wife Brandi) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Logan Hailee Howington of the home. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Micah, Braelyn, Gabryella, Bryson and Braedyn; seven siblings, Brenda Bruce of Winston-Salem, N.C., Rosalyn Locklear (husband Doug) of Vanceboro, N.C., Marvin Howington Jr. (wife Cheryl) of Lumberton, N.C., Marla Heeks (husband Bobby) of Raeford, N.C., Darryl Howington (wife Tomalita) of Lumberton, N.C., Denton Howington (wife Teresa) of Indiana, and Kimberly Wright (husband Paul) of Raeford, N.C.

Spencer was a devoted husband, father, and friend to many with his bold stance for Christ and his love for his family and friends. From his wife, "Spencer, you were my very best friend and always there for me. You brought the very best out of me and for that I'll always be truly thankful. With Love Always, From Your North Star."

From your loving daughter, "I'll always remember tickles on the bed, blowing kisses and the kisses goodnight. Thank you for always praying for me before school and for being an amazing father."

From your loving sons, "Pops, thank you for showing us what a Christian husband, father, and grandfather looks like. Thank you for being the hands, the face, and the feet of Jesus. We promise by Christ's strength we will take care of Mama and Logan. As Christ told his disciples, 'Keep the faith and carry it for ALL the world to see the love of Jesus Christ.'"

From your beloved daughter-in-laws, "Thank you for always making us feel welcomed and loved in this family. You weren't just our Father-In-Law, you treated us like a Father, with the upmost respect and love. Thank you for sharing that love with us and we promise to continue sharing that unconditional love to your family."

The family will receive friends 6 to 9 tonight at Union Chapel Community Baptist Church.

OMG!!! WOW!!! SHOCK!!!!!!
My dear friend and brother in Christ. I will miss you dearly. You have touched my heart and soul in so many ways. You were a friend that I could count on no matter what the need. I will miss the hand shake each Sunday morning and the BIG BEAR HUG during the fellowship song and the words "I LOVE YOU HONEY". Your seat beside the vent was vacant this Sunday but I know your spirit was still among us. You will continue to be with us since the love we have for you lives within our hearts. I will continue to be friend to Frankie as long as she wants my love and friendship. Tell daddy that I love and miss him dearly. Rest in peace.
Praying for God's comfort and strength for the family

Frankie I am truly sadden to hear of Spencer's passing. You well know how I feel about Spencer, as he was one of my favorite suppliers during my tenure with Hoke County Schools. He also served as one of our supplier at church. Spencer has always provided excellent customer care, a true loss for all who loved him. Know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers as you conquer the challenges that life brings.

Much Love

Frankie and family, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Spencer was always so wonderful to work with in a professional setting when he was with Shaw. He always entered a business with that big, bright smile. Everyone adored his christian character, the way he spoke of his family, that smile that he always had that came from being a husband, father and a man of God. He will be missed by all that he touched in Robeson County and more. Continue to draw strength and comfort from our Lord during this very difficult time.
